Okay, so I don't often complain in this blog, but lately I'm noticing a very annoying trend.
Twice over the weekend, I attended a movie. On Saturday I saw The Hunger Games at the local dollar theater, and on Sunday I saw The Avengers for the second time. THG was okay - good performances, but I don't generally like dystopian stories and this was no exception - and Avengers is awesome enough that I would gladly see it a third time. I saw it for the first time last weekend.
However, all three of my moviegoing experiences were marred by the behavior of other patrons.
I'm going to be very blunt. You know how at the beginning of any movie in the theater, there's a message advising viewers to turn off their cell phones?
Believe it or not, this actually does include you.
At both movies, there were people sitting directly in front of me who spent the entire show texting on their cell phones. And at the movies last weekend? A woman brought her toddler, who spent the movie either screaming or giggling, and let him play on the stairs in the theater. I had to step over him to get to the bathroom, and she wasn't paying attention to him because she was on her cell phone too.
A lot of people seem to think that while certainly they shouldn't be talking on their phones during the show, texting is okay because it's quiet. Yeah, no. It's not okay. Cell phone text screens are bright. The sudden appearance of a brightly lit screen in the middle of a dark theater creates a distraction. It's just as distracting as if you started playing with a flashlight.

Oh yes, that and stupid parents who bring young teens to R movies >_< I had these two kids who wouldn't keep their feet off the backs of the seats and they kept kicking out in fright. The last movie I was in the manager actually came and made an announcement before the movie stating the whole texting thing, and the feet on seats. And then informed that if they saw a cell phone light during the movie that person would be escorted out. I almost cheered.
